We had an amazing Summerlicious lunch at Reds Bistro this past week! Summerlicious is now in its fifth year and runs in Toronto from July 6th-July 22nd. This year 130 restaurants are participating and Reds is one of them.
Taylor Thompson, Head Sommelier at Reds, welcomed us and graciously gave us the tour of the restaurant which includes a wine bar on the main level, a great patio, and on the top floor a fine dinning restaurant. We enjoyed a fantastic three course prix fixe lunch all matched with delicious wines (mostly Canadian Wines to boot!). We enjoyed a flavourful gazpacho and a hot house tomato and boccicini salad as appetizers, and an amazing Sea Bass for our main course.
Our favourite match of the afternoon was dessert! We had a great glass of a select late harvest that combined both Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc grapes - it was divine, and it matched perfectly with the pastry based strawberries and creme fraiche. You have to try it!
We originally met Taylor at Sip Ontario (Ontario Wine Awards) and he enticed us to check out Reds. We also heard about Reds via VINES magazine back in MARCH/APRIL 2007, where Editor Christopher Waters featured them.

Taylor took over 5 months ago as the Head Sommelier and he has ambitious plans to become a Master Sommelier before he's 30, which would make him the youngest M.S. in Canadian history! He also worked at Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar and has a passion for service and wine. For Taylor, he was encouraged to pursue wine eduction by his parents, who are both Sommeliers.
