Pairing Wine with a Great Book

Pairing Wine with a Great Book!
By Wendi Marchioni

I had the pleasure of attending a special presentation of bestselling author Lori Lansens’ new book The Wife’s Tale. The event was held at the Academy of Spherical Arts in Liberty Village and was presented by Random House of Canada and Stoneleigh New Zealand wines.

Doors opened at 5:30 p.m. and a private Q&A with Lori began at 6 p.m. sharp. Lori was broadcasted live via video stream from her home in California and presented on a large projector screen inside the venue. Many fans approached the microphone at the front of the room and asked various questions about her personal experiences, the book’s characters, etc.

Stoneleigh’s delicious wines were served to everyone at the event; There was the 2008 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, the 2007 Marlborough Chardonnay, and the 2007 Marlborough Pinot Noir. My favourite was the sauvignon blanc (a good call considering it is a varietal NZ does very well). As soon as I took a sip I was delighted by the sweet taste of grapefruit. It was a refreshingly light wine that tasted great with or without food.

The Q&A ended around 7 p.m. and guests mingled for a short while before heading out. This was a great afterwork social, and a fun event for booklovers. Check out www.bookclubs.ca if you are an avid-reader or want to be part of a bookclub offering some great recommends. After all, wine does pair very well with a great book!

Stoneleigh’s wines are available at the LCBO and range from $16.95 to $19.95.
